{August 2020} Paint Sample Crafts

Because I have been painting about a mural a month for close to 2 years now, I have become the heir to a rather large collection of paint sample cards. You know, the cards they use to mix your paint at the hardware store? I’ve always recycled these cards for other uses so for this month, I wanted to compile the top 10 craft projects you can create to put your old paint samples to good use.

#10 Earring display

My favorite way to recycle paint samples is by using them as earring display cards. You could use them to organize your own earring collection by putting each pair on a card and then using a thumb tack to hold the individual cards on to a cork board. I use this technique a lot when displaying my earrings at festivals and shows.

PRO TIP: use a sewing needle to punch the hole for your earring backs to fit through so you don’t bend the actual earring.

#9 Calendar

Place your cards evenly on a piece of paper with tape then frame. This is the perfect opportunity to color code your calendar . Use a dry erase marker on the frame so you can start new each month.

#8 Place Settings

This is such a creative way to create place settings for weddings or themed parties. Use them for utensils or napkins. The picture shows that the cards have been sewn together, but if you don’t have a sewing machine you could use staples or glue as well.

#6 Paint sample wall

Can’t paint at your apartment complex? Just duct tape a million paint samples to it. if you own your home I would recommend using a water based acrylic gel adhesive to attach your paint cards to the wall, as this will be more permanent.

#5 Gift wrap

Do people really still spend money on expensive wrapping paper? There are so many free options, this being one of the best. This would be especially awesome if the gift is for someone who paints or sells paint.

#1 & My personal favorite: The Paint Sample Skirt

I made this specifically for my photoshoot and I attached paint sample cards to a skirt that I didn’t wear anymore using thread and painter’s tape. I wanted a unique set of pictures that screamed ARTIST and Shannon Baber (my photographer) delivered. I’m linking her Facebook below if you should ever need her services.
